MILK & DAIRY … it’s a personal choice!
I apologise if this picture offends anyone and I also I find it very disturbing, but this is reality… Humans drink cows milk…. its just depicted from the source and not a carton in a store… Same Same.
Plenty of people think it’s a perfectly healthy substance to drink; advertisements would have us believe so and encourage us to consume it all the time.
But, unfortunately, it may not be as healthy as we are lead to believe.
I talk a lot about dairy and I am well aware that it’s a very touchy subject; being critical of dairy is like criticising motherhood, it upsets a lot of people.
My intention is not to upset, it’s just to inform.
For the Love of Dairy
Most love cow’s milk & dairy and they don’t even want to entertain the thought that it’s not actually a human food group.
This is completely understandable! When I used to consume dairy I believed the same thing.
I loved eating it and remember how it was quite addictive to me; I also had a lot of health issues. Now I’m not going to say that all my health problems stemmed from eating excessive amounts of dairy.
But I am pretty positive that it was a major player.
Do you Crave Dairy?
Also, if your craving dairy; that’s because casein (a milk protein) in dairy, crosses the blood-brain barrier. This becomes a casomorphin (an opioid).
Nature designed it that way so young mammals would enjoy nursing and want to come back for more and live on to reproduce themselves.
Milk is most Definitely a Food!
Often, the argument against drinking milk is over complicated; although the truth is actually plain and simple. The truth is, milk is objectively, absolutely a food.
It’s made of fat, protein and carbohydrates that are there to be consumed; just not by humans.
As humans we eat a lot of things that nature provides specifically for another species. I could also say the same about bees, we harvest honey; the bee’s larvae food for ourselves.
Should we be Drinking Another Mammals Breast Milk? ! Hmmm
To my knowledge, humans are the only mammals on the planet that drinks another mammal’s breast milk! Morally and ethically this doesn’t sit well with me!
Especially due to the fact that we rely on this bovine growth formula to raise human babies.
We’d be much better off harvesting “human milk”; wouldn’t that make more sense? Although, that doesn’t sit right with me either.
Is there a correlation between excessive milk & dairy consumption and the chronic health crisis we see in our children? I think that along with other contributing factors, most definitely.
A Personal Story. Is Cow’s Milk Formula Bad For Baby?
My story relates to the severe health problems my own baby suffered. My daughter was placed straight on cow’s milk formula (not by choice).
She never received my colostrum to help seal her digestive tract.
I have never heard a baby scream so loud, hard and long (literally weeks evolving into months) and vomit with every feed. She had the worst colic I have ever seen and would buckle in agony.
Her poor little digestive system couldn’t handle the formula, we tried several types of formula and all had the same horrible outcome.
Chronic Colic is “Not Normal” for Babies
Doctors and nurses told me this agonising colic was completely normal and she would grow out of it, which she did.
It manifested into chronic IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and digestive issues that then resulted in full blown Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis in her early teens.
Do I blame the cow’s milk formula for messing up her system (in the initial stages of life) and in turn half her life… well yes I think I do!! And, I also blame myself; but I was 23 and knew no better.
I only knew and believed what the so called professionals told me.
Had she have been breast fed and had that good start to life, I’m positive things would have been different….
Cow’s Milk, a Specially Formulated Super Food (for baby cows)
The nutrients and proteins in cow’s milk are specially formulated for the first stage of growth of a calf into a large bovine beast. This growth formula is designed for that purpose and that purpose alone.
As with human milk is for baby humans; specific nutrients and proteins needed to grow an infant into a toddler. Same with camels, dogs, cats, whales and so on.
The purpose of any mammal’s milk is solely for the growth of that particular baby mammal.
Dairy Related Health Problems
Some worry that the proteins and hormones in cow’s milk & dairy products could cause health problems in humans.
Science proves our ability as humans to properly digest lactose is lost after age 4 which is also the age that many cultures stop breastfeeding. Our bodies literally cease make the enzymes needed to digest milk.
Cow’s Milk & Dairy is implicated in almost all respiratory issues, widespread allergies and intolerances. This indicates that its consumption, or at least it’s over-consumption, can potentially be very harmful.
Hormones – Estrogen / Progesterone & Testosterone Balance
Estrogen and testosterone are our sex hormones and when they get out of balance we may suffer mood swings as a result.
For example, many have suggested that estrogen in cow’s milk might promote the growth of hormone sensitive cancers such as breast or ovarian cancer.
Another concern is that hormones in milk might cause early puberty in children.
Research also suggests these hormones in milk also have the potential to increase the risk of prostate cancer and reduce fertility.
As the dairy cows have just been pregnant or given birth, their hormonal status produces estrogens that are transferred to their milk. Thereby, drinking cow’s milk may significantly increase estrogen levels (research suggests it contains up to 33 times as much estrogen as a non-pregnant cow).
Read about the dangers of Estrogen Dominance here
It is also suggested that dairy consumption also accounts for around 60-80% of estrogen consumed through the human diet.
At the same time, milk naturally contains androgenic properties. This may contribute to an increase of testosterone in the body. In-turn this may manifest further; causing a plethora of health problems and unwanted weight gain.
All milk & dairy products; no matter where from, naturally contains small amounts of various hormones, including estrogen and progesterone.
As hormones like estrogen are fat-soluble, the level of hormones is higher in whole milk than in skim milk. Organic milk, however, contains about the same amount of hormones as conventionally produced milk.
In saying that, I mean just the naturally occurring pregnancy / birthing hormones; not all the chemically added ones.
Calcium from Dairy is far from Superior
Through clever marketing, the dairy industry has convinced many of us that we need to eat lots of dairy products to maintain healthy bones. While, in fact, many other foods offer far superior sources of calcium.
Research shows that high levels of calcium (especially from non-bioavailable sources like dairy) may actually spur osteoporosis.
Dairy contributes in making the body acidic; this actually reduces the amount of calcium that is available to the body.
To neutralise the acidic environment created by cow’s milk and dairy products, the body leeches already stored calcium from the bones, teeth etc. causing decreased calcium levels (and strength) to these areas.
Is Insulin Release Spurred on by Cow’s Milk & Dairy?
We need insulin to shuttle all sorts of nutrients into cells, like protein and glycogen into muscles. It’s there for a reason, so to demonise it is wrong. It’s only chronically elevated insulin and insulin resistance that is the problem.
Dairy (milk in particular) stimulates high insulin secretion; more than can be explained by the lactose (sugar) content alone.
In fact, the lactose content of milk doesn’t even have a big insulin effect when compared to other carbs. This may be surprising since the general understanding is that insulin is released primarily in response to carbohydrate intake.
With milk, it’s the proteins plus the carbs that are responsible for the large insulin release.
It comes down to the amino acid composition of milk proteins, specifically the amino acids leucine, valine, lysine and isoleucine. These are the truly insulinogenic proteins and they’re highest in whey.
Milk & Dairy Tolerance
Tolerances vary; if someone is healthy and has a well-functioning digestive system, they may have no trouble ingesting it.
Others may react severely; some find that they can’t lose weight while consuming dairy and are just gaining.
Whether included or excluded, the decision must be an informed one with an assessment of the potential risks and benefits; followed by a personal assessment of dairy’s effects.
If someone has been eating dairy their entire life, their body doesn’t know anything else.
If this is this case, full elimination for at least a month is required to get an accurate assessment of health changes or benefits. Then reintroduce a large serving and access any metabolic response.
I’ve seen people’s lives change quite dramatically when conventional dairy is eliminated. So it may be worth the consideration.
I haven’t even touched on other substances found in conventional cow’s milk, such as (blood, faeces, pus, bacteria, pathogens etc.). Or chemicals like (antibiotics, added hormones, vaccines, pesticides and herbicides) and so it goes…
The ethical and moral side of big dairy corporations is a big factor for me. I simply cannot eat it. When I used to consume it I was very sick and inflamed.
It is my opinion that the conventional dairy industry is a mostly a cruel one with much suffering to the animals. For these reasons I do not advocate it.
BEFORE YOU GO!
